My "vacation"

Hey ya'll! I have been meaning to post on my recent "vacation" but life has been busy lately. Soooo - here is what I can jot down!
My vacation in brief: It was my husband and I, our 10 year old son, my 15 year old step-daughter and her 16 year old friend and then my dad and his girlfriend. Yeah - it was a blast (can you hear the sarcasm???)
In theory - it was a great idea. My dad rented us a cabin in the black hills of South Dakota for a week. He rented the other cabin for him and his girlfriend. There were only two cabins and our hosts. No - this wasn't an ordinary cabin in the woods - nope - it was called a "bed and breakfast cabin". We were served breakfast every morning. Now don't get me wrong - it was nice - our hosts were awesome! But ----- it was still five of us (me and hubby, 10 year old boy and two teenage girls) in a one room - with a loft - cabin.
Ok - so in reality - it was a sort of nightmare. Some parts were good - other parts had me wanting to jam a stick in my eye to help me forget what was going on around me.
The good parts: We played tourist.
We got to see an amazing live dig. It was called The Mammoth Dig. It is a place in Hot Springs that used to be a huge sinkhole. They have found a large number of mammoths at the sinkhole and are currently in the process of digging to recover them! It is really cool - I would definitely recommend it.
Then we saw Mount Rushmore and the most amazing "in process" mountain sculpting at Crazyhorse Memorial. It was cool - the story behind it is amazing and awe inspiring! Definitely a must see!!
We also got to go to Deadwood. That was way too cool! The wild west - hell yeah! I was definitely into that! We got to see where Wild Bill was shot and killed and also his grave along with Calamity Jane's grave. It is a cool, old town! I loved it!
The not so good parts: I guess, from what I am told, it was normal parent stuff. Two teenage girls who were not impressed a lot of the time and a 10 year old who wanted everything he saw. The girls were not happy that they did not have cell service and for the most part - I think they were bored off their asses! I guess it was just vacation stuff. Now that I have calmed down from it - I am not so bitter toward it. It got to the point, while we were up there, that I just wished we never went. There were so many things that I wanted to see that I gave up because others were bitchy. I am convinced that if I had just given the girls the money we spent on them on the trip to stay at my house and go to the mall that they would have been much happier! (yes - I am still harboring ill feelings - I was not a happy camper with my step-daughter's little friend - that might just have to be another post)
And that my friends - is my vacation in a nutshell. There is way more there than I have written on - maybe I will blog about it again - I am waiting on pictures and will post them when I get them!
Have fun all!
